A bit of history of Skopje
The city of Skopje is the capital of the Republic of Macedonia and was founded in the 3rd century BC. During its existence, it managed to fall under the influence of Rome and was renamed Scupi. At one time Skopje was the center of the province of Mysia and was a very large city at that time, including the right to self-government. After the fall of the Roman Empire Skopje was part of various states in the Balkans, and in the 14th century it became part of the Ottoman Empire. In the 17th century, plague came to the city, as a result of which by the end of the century Skopje was completely burned in an attempt to prevent the spread of the disease. However, the city was rebuilt all the same.
In the 20th century Skopje became part of Yugoslavia, but in 1963 it was again almost completely destroyed in an earthquake. And the city was rebuilt again, this time under the leadership of the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange.
